Hey,

I’m Gianfranco Ceccolini, the CEO and Founder of MOD Devices.

If you are a guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, vocalist or if you play any other instrument and you're into effects, synths, loops or any other audio processing devices you're at the right place.

Like many other guitar players, I've always used pedals or multi-effects units. Each time I had to pack and set my pedal effects before a gig or rehearsal I had the same thought:

"Why can't we have a device that works like a multi effect, has the ease-of-use of pedals but can be fully customized as a computer?!"

I started to look around but at that time, in 2008, nothing like that was available.

So I decided to do what most engineers do: build it myself ;-)

That's basically how it all started, then came an awesome Kickstarter campaign, then more friends joined the team and the community and after a few years here it is: the mighty MOD Duo.

Tried and tested by hundreds of guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, vocalists and even accordeonists. who use it at home, at their studio, on stage and even when they go on holiday.

Testimonials

"I spend a lot of my time recording with, trying out and writing about pedals and processors - my music career depends on them, and as such, I'm very demanding of them. The MOD Duo is at the heart of my live and studio set-up, and has helped simplify my set-up while simultaneously increasing the options available to me at any one time. I love it "
Steve Lawson - Solo artist, Bass Guitar Magazine columnist, music lecturer - Birmingham, UK

"With the MOD Duo, I don't care if the gig has a shi*** amp. My sound will always be there "
Niper Boaventura - Leader of the band Pull Down - São Paulo, Brazil

"I've tinkered enough with embedded devices and audio to realize that the MOD Duo is the end of the line, it's the best, it is practically unbeatable in its category. And other companies have tried but none of them managed to deliver a product like the MOD Duo "
Jeremy Jongepier - Guitar player and software developer - Beverwijk, the Netherlands

"It seemed too good to be true at first: the tone customization and being able to save presets for fluidity during shows, the wide variety of pedals, lack of bugs and glitches and user-friendly UI. But now I call it the pedal from heaven. It's perfect for college students wanting a pedalboard with little money. It's a big step but it's the only pedal you really have to own. Amazing! "
Richard Jacob McCauley Wenzel - Electric guitar player - Huntersville, USA

"It can really do anything: audio in/out, midi in/out, etc, plus it has its own plugin store, community and is its own independent platform. If I didn't have the MOD Duo, I would have to go back to boring FX pedals from big companies, while now I have the most amazing FX board in the world!"
Vincent Rateau - Electric guitar player for Superdirt - Freiburg, Germany

"Here we have all the effects together without having to buy each one of them. I was looking for that for a long time "
Marcelo Coelho - Sax player, soloist, music teacher, composer and producer - São Paulo, Brazil

"I was worried at first if MOD could follow through and deliver on its promise of an all-in-one device that could replace several others. But it has! You've gotta try this! I replaced several pedals and sold them (used on e-bay) and made enough (and more) to pay for the MOD Duo."
Dave Parker - Electric guitar player - Kansas City, USA

"I have been using the MOD Duo since September 2016 for my electro-accordion project, and have been enjoying the compact nature of everything being in one pedal for my live shows, the variety of effects there are for both my vocals and for my accordion and how user-friendly the pedalboards are to build. In addition, the staff at MOD Devices are always very helpful and super attentive to when I have any questions regarding their product."
Miss Natasha Enquist - Electro-Accordion Chanteuse, MNE Records - Berlin, Germany

"My live setup is now several kilograms lighter."
Jóhannes Gunnar Þorsteinsson - void Ziz() - Iceland

"Initially, you get excited with the number of effects. For me, the basic ones are important: the clean, the drive, the crunch, the distortion. They are all there. It's endless fun! "
Kleber K. Shima - Guitar player, music teacher and producer - São Paulo, Brazil

"The more I play with it, the more I like it. It’s fantastic, truly fantastic. Sounds great, very easy to understand and program. I am spending my whole days playing with it and I often tell myself « this pedal is brilliant », as soon as I discover something new. Without a doubt, the best piece of gear I’ve bought this last 10 years. And believe me, I’m NOT exaggerating, and I’ve bought a lot of stuff."
Pierre-Emile Bertona - Bass and Chapman Stick player, photographer - Sierre, Switzerland

"I was concerned about the variety and quality of plug-ins that would be available. Fortunately, the existing and new plug-ins that have been developed are fantastic. I've been able to design any sound that I have come up with in my head, while finding many more along the way. It is aimed at people interested in designing a wide array of sounds and experimenting with many effects. It is also beneficial for someone on a budget - One pedal that can be used to host your entire pedalboard!"
Derek Desroches - Electric guitar player - Saskatoon, Canada

"I have tried similar things with a computer. That or more stompboxes. My use cases are easier to achieve with the MOD though. The flexible routing system has allowed me to do some really cool effect setups, including vocoder and pitch shifting to create choirs."
Robert Jonsson - Guitar player - Skellefteå, Sweden

"I've never really been much into pedals, because I'm a woodwind player. About 5 years ago I started trying to make my own simple pedals using open-source schematics, but was really relieved when I saw this kickstarter. It's great that I can make my own LV2 plugins. The Duo is meant for someone who doesn't want to invest a lot of money in a bunch of pedals, and who doesn't like carrying a bunch of stuff to gigs, and who likes open-source."
Eric Fontaine - Woodwind player - Austin, USA

"Small and very powerful device with intuitive interface for nearly all ideas for stacking/connecting effects and sound generators. A flexible must-have for all kinds of musicians!"
Holger Wirtz - Electric guitar player, keyboard player and MIDI - Falkensee, Germany

“With the MOD Duo I feel like a kid in a candy shop. The perfect tool to score my dreams and nightmares. You'll probably think I’m crazy but…WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE??? With unlimited possibilities to shape my guitar sound with such a bright and clean tune, everything in one single pedal... sincerely, I threw everything else out of the window."
Emilio Larocca Conte - Electric guitar player, composer, sound designer - Berlin, Germany

"The MOD Duo is not only for bass and guitar players – as a horn player the device provides me with endless possibilities to alter and improve my sound and takes my playing to a whole new level. The sound quality is amazing and the CPU can even handle harmonizing multiple voices. But that’s not all: With the MOD you will get access to an awesome, skilled and ambitious community which always provides you with inspiration and help."
Dominik Lorenz - Saxophone player, composer and producer - Kaiserslautern, Germany

"What I like the most about the MOD Duo is its architecture that mixes LV2 plugins, Python programming, Open Source and an active community. But it also comes with an outstanding build and sound quality and is frequently keeping the software updated. It's a really great-sounding musician nerd toy."
Frank Lehmann - Electric guitar player - Auckland, New Zealand

"I haven't invested in many pedals, so the duo was perfect for me because I wanted simple things like octave drop, phaser etc. I love how it's community-driven, hackable, provides virtual pedalboards with amazing sound and encourages the creation of crazy new things."
Mike Stanton - Guitar player - Glenside, USA

Frequently Asked Questions

The MOD Duo is designed to work with a big variety of instruments. People use the MOD Duo with anything varying from regular electric guitars to wind-instruments like the trumpet or a MIDI Drum Kit. A general rule of thumb: if it can be plugged in to a 1/4' jack,a DIN-MIDI or USB, it works with the MOD Duo.

The MOD Duo has two completely independent analog inputs plus it supports both DIN-MIDI and USB-MIDI controllers. You can use a USB-Hub to connect multiple USB-MIDI controllers. The Plugin Store offers an comprehensive colletcion of virtual instruments and synths, including a great suite of MIDI processing tools.

Yes, the MOD Duo has great MIDI-connectivity. There is support for old-school MIDI over DIN-cables, as well as USB-MIDI over USB-cables. It is even possible to add a USB hub to the MOD Duo to expand the amount of USB connections that you can make.

No. The format used by the MOD Duo is LV2, which is similar to VST, but released under an open-source license, avoiding the license hassles related to VST and allowing multiple developers around the world to create effects for the MOD Duo.

Currently all plug-ins available for the MOD Duo are free but the commercial section is already under development and will be opened soon. We currently have close to 200 plugins in our library and new ones are constantly being added.

No. We have an online Plugin Store that is opened to 3rd party developers, similar to the app stores from smartphone. The MOD Duo supports an open standard called LV2 created by the very active Linux Audio Community and hundreds of LV2 plugins are freely available.

No. The MOD Duo has a MIDI input and two mono-jack inputs for connecting guitars, basses and dynamic microphones, but a condenser microphone could be connected via a pre-amp with phantom power.

The MOD Duo is designed to present the minimum possible latency. We use specific PCBs and circuits for audio processing, producing a latency of approximately 5 milliseconds, which is imperceptible to humans. Our engineers are working to further reduce this latency.

Besides the 90-day money-back guarantee period, the MOD Duo has a one-year warranty, provided the problem is not caused by misuse. Our support team can also help you with any queries, regardless of when the MOD Duo was purchased.

You have four actuators at your disposal: two footswitches and two knobs. The switches only allow you to control one plugin at a time but can be used to switch between pedalboards. The knobs, on the other hand, can be pushed like buttons so that you can address and control a virtually infinite amount of plugin parameters with each one, though it might not be very practical. Each musician can find the perfect balance between the numbers of actuators, the numbers of parameters to be controlled and the pedalboard banks that fit their needs.

The only limit to the number of pedals you can use simultaneously is the amount of processing they require. Certain pedals, such as Pitch Shifters and Tube Emulators, carry out numerous mathematical calculations and, therefore, require more processing. Others, such as delays and chorus, are mathematically simple and require little processing. Therefore, you may have problems if you try to use several Pitch Shifters on the same pedalboard. To help with this, the MOD Duo has a CPU usage indicator that alerts the user when the pedal board they have created is overloading the equipment.

Yes. Our devices fully support the LV2 standard and any working LV2 plugin will work in the MOD Duo. Installation is done using our open source SDK.

The MOD Duo checks if it is updated every time you connect to the graphical interface. If there is an update available, you will be notified. You can then perform the update with a single click. Our team of programmers and engineers work to develop new features and to improve existing ones. We launch new updates every month, which means that your MOD Duo constantly becomes more efficient and more stable.

No. You can create pedalboards using the plugins that are already installed on your MOD Duo. Internet connection is required only to install new plug-ins and to share or download other users’ pedalboards.

No, you can take just MOD Duo to the stage and it works like any other regular multi-effects pedal. The computer/tablet/phone is used to install new effects; create pedalboards (plugin arrangements with control assignments); upgrade the internal software; and share your pedalboards on MOD Cloud.

" YES, that's it! Order the MOD Duo now and check it out for 90 full days and  if you're not blown away by how fast you will craft the greatest sound for your guitar, bass, keyboard or any other musical instrument, just send it back and we'll issue a full refund excluding shipping costs.

No questions asked!

No hassles!

Why do we do that?

The reason is quite simple.

We created the MOD Duo because we needed a flexible device with unlimited plugins, that would be stage-ready and user-friendly.

From the very early concept the response of people has been great.

This kept pushing us forward to the point that we decided to run a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and it was successfully funded.

At this point we understood that it is all about the musician’s community being satisfied and empowered.

We had an opportunity to build something other musicians, like us, needed because they didn't find something similar out there despite of the promises.

But how could we really make a difference?

We decided to not only deliver a great product but to make sure musicians would really love using it.

And if not we should give back their hard-earned money.

Because that's what we were expecting as musicians.

And that's what we do.

Only serving musicians who really want the MOD Duo and really love using it, this make life easier for you and for us.

So get your MOD Duo today and join hundreds of delighted musicians!
